Separating parents and children are at times cast out from the family home, away from loved ones and traditional support systems such as the extended family, friends or the system.

It can be a fall from grace with shame and many issues attached and with little regard to human dignity.

The battle for survival of the mind, body and soul can become a real challenge, where life often swings in the balance for some. Everyday can be like survival, people need friends not rivals.

"There is no friend like an old friend who has shared our morning days, no greeting like his welcome, no homage like his praise."— Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

With a person's perceived troubles and losses insurmountable in their mind, chances of recovery can be slim without the right strategies and will to overcome a range of issues.

It can be a long and hard road for these people, with some in the community and organisations alike stepping up to the plate wherever they can to assist.

One such organisation is the Salvation Army in Melbourne with their newly formed operation codenamed Order 614 helping renew the plans, hope and future for people in need and crisis.

Order614 is a group of passionate Christians who, for 1 year, will live and work together to connect and journey with the forgotten people in the city of Melbourne.

Order614 is not a place for soft, comfortable Christianity. It's about getting out on the fringes of society, getting hands dirty with some of the most broken and hurting people of the city.

Order614 will provide an opportunity to do life with the homeless, mentally ill, prostitutes, transsexuals, abandoned children and refugees.

You will be stretched, challenged, overwhelmed and exhausted; but you will see Jesus working in you and through you to change the lives of some very broken people. It will be life changing.

The 614 comes from the book of Isaiah Chapter 61, verses 1-4. Extract from KJB.

"The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations."

So our heavenly Father, please bless us all on whatever day or night we meet, be it in friendship or duty and Lord, whatever dangers and endeavors those among us may take let them never be without your sanctuary. For we all know in our hearts that even though we may pass through the valley of the shadow of death, you are with us, guiding and protecting us — Amen.

With love, kindness and peace
Michael
